将棋盤(しょうぎばん)

The board used for 将棋(しょうぎ) (Japanese chess). Composed of 将棋(しょうぎ) (shogi) + 盤(ばん) (board). A standard 将棋盤(しょうぎばん) has a 9x9 grid of 81 squares. Professional and formal boards are thick blocks of wood, often made from 榧(かや) (Japanese torreya), and stand on four legs.
