months (duration)
A counter for counting the duration of time in months. Different from 月 which is used for naming specific months.
ヶ月 counts duration in months. Usually written with the small ヶ; カ月, か月 and 箇月 are also standard.
Counting patterns
- 一ヶ月: 1 month (note the っ)
- 二ヶ月: 2 months
- 三ヶ月: 3 months
- 六ヶ月: 6 months (note the っ)
- 十ヶ月: 10 months (note the っ)
- 何ヶ月: how many months?
The か undergoes gemination (っ) after 一, 六, 八, and 十: いっかげつ, ろっかげつ, はっかげつ, じゅっかげつ.
