箸 are the essential eating utensils in Japan. お箸 is the polite form.
TYPES:
- 割り箸: disposable wooden chopsticks
- 塗り箸: lacquered chopsticks
- マイ箸: personal chopsticks (brought from home)
ETIQUETTE:
- Never stick 箸 upright in rice (associated with funerals)
- Don't pass food chopstick-to-chopstick (also funeral-related)
- Don't point with 箸
- Rest 箸 on the 箸置き (chopstick rest)
