(すず) refers to small bells that jingle. This is different from (かね), which refers to large bells that are struck.

At Shinto shrines, visitors ring a large (すず) to announce their presence to the deity before praying. 風鈴(ふうりん) (wind chimes) are a summer tradition in Japan.
