To prevent someone from entering by closing and locking a door. Can refer to accidentally locking oneself out.
鍵(かぎ)を忘(わす)れて家(いえ)から閉(し)め出(だ)されてしまった。

Passive form - common usage
猫(ねこ)を外(そと)に閉(し)め出(だ)さないでください。

2. to exclude, to shut out
To exclude someone from participation, membership, or involvement in something.
彼(かれ)はグループから閉(し)め出(だ)された。
He was shut out of the group.
Figurative usage - exclusion

TRANSITIVITY: 他動詞(たどうし) (transitive). Compound verb: 閉(し)める + 出(だ)す. Pattern: Xを閉(し)め出(だ)す (lock X out).

ASPECT: ている indicates resulting state. 閉(し)め出(だ)されている = 'is locked out.'

COMMON PATTERNS:
