WRITING:
Usually written in hiragana. The kanji (ひよこ) exists but is rarely used.

USAGE:
Sense 2 is commonly used in a self-deprecating way or to describe someone affectionately as still learning. It is less harsh than calling someone 素人(しろうと) (amateur).
