Compound of 身 (self, body) + 勝手 (one's own convenience). Stronger in tone than 勝手 alone.

USAGE NOTE:
Always negative in connotation. Implies the person is disregarding others while pursuing their own wishes. Similar to 自分勝手 and 我がまま, but 身勝手 tends to sound slightly more serious or accusatory.
