Composed of 皮下 (皮 skin + 下 under, "under the skin") and 脂肪 (fat). 皮下脂肪 is commonly contrasted with 内臓脂肪 (visceral fat) in Japanese discussions of health and dieting. Subcutaneous fat is the type you can "pinch" and tends to accumulate around the hips, thighs, and upper arms.
