1. ski lift; chairlift
The chairlift that carries skiers and snowboarders up a slope. This is the default meaning at a ski resort.

2. hoist; lifting device; platform lift
A machine that raises loads or people, such as a cargo hoist, a car lift in a garage, or a wheelchair lift on a bus.

They put the car on the lift and inspected the underside.
This bus has a wheelchair lift, so you can get on and off by yourself.

Note that リフト does not mean "elevator" in Japanese — that is エレベーター.
