1. ski lift; chairlift
The chairlift that carries skiers and snowboarders up a slope. This is the default meaning at a ski resort.
リフトに乗(の)った。
I got on the ski lift.
風(かぜ)が強(つよ)くてリフトが止(と)まっている。
The wind is strong, so the lift has stopped.
一日(いちにち)券(けん)を買(か)えば、どのリフトも何回(なんかい)でも使(つか)える。

2. hoist; lifting device; platform lift
A machine that raises loads or people, such as a cargo hoist, a car lift in a garage, or a wheelchair lift on a bus.
荷物(にもつ)をリフトで上(あ)げる。
We raise the cargo with the hoist.
車(くるま)をリフトに載(の)せて下(した)まわりを点検(てんけん)した。
They put the car on the lift and inspected the underside.
このバスには車(くるま)いす用(よう)のリフトがついているので、一人(ひとり)でも乗(の)り降(お)りできる。
This bus has a wheelchair lift, so you can get on and off by yourself.

Note that リフト does not mean "elevator" in Japanese — that is エレベーター.
