The closest in physical distance. Less common than the temporal sense.

USAGE:
Most commonly used in sense 1 (temporal). Often modifies nouns with の or appears as a の-adjective (直近の). Frequently found in business, news, and data analysis contexts. The spatial sense (sense 2) is less frequent; 最寄り is more common for 'nearest station.'
