Most commonly used in sense 1 (temporal). Often modifies nouns with or appears as a -adjective (直近(ちょっきん)). Frequently found in business, news, and data analysis contexts. The spatial sense (sense 2) is less frequent; 最寄(もよ) is more common for 'nearest station.'
