A number or quantity obtained from a calculation, measurement, or data. Very common in technical, scientific, and computing contexts.
The kanji 値 has two main readings: あたい (this entry) and ね (see entry 03527). The reading あたい is used for abstract/technical values and the "worth" meaning, while ね is used for prices of goods (値段, 値上げ).
