The sweet taste quality, one of the five basic tastes.
甘味 is sweetness as a quality of taste (sense 1), and by extension sweet things to eat (sense 2).
Formation: 甘い 'sweet' + 味 'taste.'
Two readings, and they split the two senses:
- あまみ is the reading for sweetness as a flavour — what a 桃 or a トマト has.
- かんみ is used for sweets as food, and is fixed in the compounds below.
