2. documentary; factual account
A factual record or account of real events. Used as a shorter form of ドキュメンタリー in some contexts, especially in publishing and media.
戦争(せんそう)のドキュメントを読(よ)んだ。
I read a documentary account of the war.
この番組(ばんぐみ)は被災地(ひさいち)の復興(ふっこう)を追(お)ったドキュメントだ。
This program is a documentary following the recovery of the disaster-stricken area.

From English "document." Used in two main ways in Japanese: as a computing/business term for files and records, and as a media term for factual accounts.

In computing, ドキュメント is the standard term for files, especially text-based ones. The Windows/Mac "Documents" folder is called ドキュメント in Japanese. In media, it overlaps with ドキュメンタリー but tends to refer more to written or published accounts than to films.
