午前(ごぜん) indicates the time before noon, used for AM times.

COMMON EXPRESSIONS:

DAY DIVISIONS:

  • 午前(ごぜん): AM, before noon
  • 正午(しょうご): noon (12:00 PM)
  • 午後(ごご): PM, afternoon

NOTE:
午(ご) means "noon," so 午前(ごぜん) literally means "before noon" and 午後(ごご) means "after noon."
