I remember the face, but I don't remember the name.
I memorized this song. I can sing it now.
Memorizing the route is hard, but if I walk it many times I can remember it.
2. to learn, to pick up
To acquire a skill or knowledge, often through practice or experience.
(うた)(おぼ)えたい。
I want to learn the song.
Using the 'learn a skill' meaning
(およ)(かた)(おぼ)えました。
I learned how to swim.
It took time to learn the job.
I learned how to ride a bicycle when I was a child.
I want to learn Japanese quickly. I study every day.

TRANSITIVITY: 他動詞(たどうし) (transitive). No pair verb. Pattern: Xを(おぼ)える (memorize/learn X).

ASPECT: ている indicates resulting state. (おぼ)えている = 'remember' (state of having memorized). This is a key verb where ている means the result, not ongoing action.
