A division within an organization.
営業(えいぎょう)課(か)で働(はたら)いている。
I work in the sales department.
人事(じんじ)課(か)に連絡(れんらく)してください。

来月(らいげつ)から総務(そうむ)課(か)に異動(いどう)することになった。
I'll be transferred to the general affairs department starting next month.

課(か) is a suffix with two main uses: numbered lessons in educational materials and divisions within organizations.

FOR LESSONS:

  • 第(だい)1課(か): Lesson 1
  • 教科書(きょうかしょ)の課(か): textbook chapter
  • Often used with 第(だい)～ prefix for numbering

FOR DEPARTMENTS:

  • 営業(えいぎょう)課(か): sales section
  • 人事(じんじ)課(か): personnel department
  • 総務(そうむ)課(か): general affairs section

ORGANIZATIONAL HIERARCHY:
課(か) is smaller than 部(ぶ) (department/division). Common structure: 会社(かいしゃ) → 部(ぶ) → 課(か)
