To move in a circular motion around an axis or center.

地球(ちきゅう)は太陽(たいよう)の周(まわ)りを回(まわ)っている。

The Earth revolves around the sun.

右(みぎ)に回(まわ)ってください。

Please turn right.

コーヒーを飲(の)みすぎて頭(あたま)が回(まわ)らない。眠(ねむ)れなくて疲(つか)れた。

2. to go around, to make rounds

To visit multiple places in succession.

'Visit' meaning

観光地(かんこうち)を回(まわ)った。

I went around the tourist spots.

営業(えいぎょう)で得意先(とくいさき)を回(まわ)る。

To make rounds to clients for sales.

病院(びょういん)の各部屋(かくへや)を回(まわ)る。

To make rounds to each room in the hospital.

友達(ともだち)の家(いえ)を回(まわ)った。

I visited several friends' houses.

3. to go via, to take a detour

To reach a destination by an indirect route.

遠(とお)回(まわ)りして帰(かえ)ったから、いつもより時間(じかん)がかかった。

I took a detour on the way home, so it took longer than usual.

遠回り = detour

裏(うら)に回(まわ)ってください。

Please go around to the back.

公園(こうえん)を回(まわ)って帰(かえ)った。

I went home via the park.

反対(はんたい)側(がわ)に回(まわ)る。

To go around to the other side.

工事中(こうじちゅう)で通(とお)れなかったので、別(べつ)の道(みち)を回(まわ)って行(い)った。

I couldn't get through because of construction, so I went around another way.
